      VACANCY FOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT
      DORRIS INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
       
      Job Classification: Educational Assistant – Library
      Start Date: December 2nd, 2024
      Work Day:  7 hours a day (plus ½ hour unpaid lunch)
      Work Year:  180 days (corresponding to the 180 days teachers are on duty).

      GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

       
      1. High School graduate.
      2. Paraprofessional License: At least 60 semester hours of college credit or pass approved paraprofessional test.
      3. Trained Library Aide with some experience (preferred)
      4. General office skills.
      5. Friendly, cheerful and enthusiastic personality; professional attitude.
      6. Ability to work cooperatively to further the program of media services.
       

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

       
      1. Oversee circulation activities at the Circulation Desk, including checking materials in & out
      2. Check in magazines and newspapers daily
      3. Maintain magazine collection Re-shelve and re-file materials
      4. Compile and distribute lists for overdue materials
      5. Collect overdue fines and fees for lost materials
      6. Stock copy machine and printers with paper daily
      7. Assist in processing of new materials by preparing cards, pockets, and spine labels and affixing Mylar covers
      8. Prepare book orders
      9. Repair and mend library materials
      10. Clip pertinent articles from newspapers
      11. Record and maintain overnight checkouts for research students
      12. Maintain library calendar for classes to visit the library
      13. Encourage acceptable student behavior
      14. Assist students and faculty in locating print and digital materials and/or information
      15. Order supplies when needed
      16. Maintain sign-up sheets for students entering the library
      17. Design large window displays
      18. Maintain a clean, orderly, attractive environment, prepare displays, and bulletin boards.
      19. Sign student passes into and out of the library
      20. Issue headphones, CDs, chargers, and calculators to students when needed
      21. Make minor repairs to computers, copiers, and printers
      22. Complete repair orders for computer and copier problems when necessary
      23. Answer phones
      24. Other duties as assigned.
